A State-of-the-Art Community
Our mission is to provide the best hands-on senior living experience for our residents while preserving their dignity. We recognize that aging is a normal life process which everyone experiences in a unique way, so we continually strive to make our community environment one that encourages, enriches, and fulfills our residents' daily lives.
The Champlain Valley Senior Community is located in the recently renovated former Willsboro School. Once serving to provide education to youth, the historic 3-story brick building has been transformed into an assisted living and dementia care community to meet the present-day needs of the Adirondack's growing senior population. Our state-of-the-art facility offers 62 rooms and provides comprehensive care including personal care assistance and supervision, daily meals and snacks, medication management, wellness programs, local transportation, select skilled nursing services and a secure memory wing for individuals with dementia and Alzheimer's.
Experienced Staff & Unique Amenities
We have trained, professional staff onsite as well as an array of amenities including an ice cream parlor, beauty salon, chapel and theater. The residence offers competitive rates, unique activities and events, and is the only enhanced assisted living community in the North Country region of upstate New York. Our enhanced license allows us to administer some nursing home level care to our residents when the need arises, allowing them to remain in place longer than they would otherwise be able to.
A Building Rich In History
During the renovation of the former grade school, every effort was made to maintain the historical charm of the building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Dating back to 1927, with an addition built in 1952, the neoclassical structure features original hardwood in the hallways, oak archways and historic door frames. The suites were built in the locations of the former classrooms, most offering scenic views of the Boquet River. The stage has also been preserved and once again serves to entertain the residents and local community. Student murals still grace the walls and slate chalkboards have been reused in creative ways.
The renovation and reuse of the Willsboro School saved a historic downtown building and now provides a safe and inviting home to the people of the Adirondacks who need more support as they age. The Champlain Valley Senior Community opened its doors in the summer of 2013 and it is our hope that residents of the Adirondack Park can now stay closer to home in a safe and nurturing environment for decades to come.
Nearby Assisted Living Options
Eli and Emily Schwartzberg also own and operate the Samuel F. Vilas Home which is conveniently located in downtown Plattsburgh across from SUNY Plattsburgh and adjacent to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH). Built in 1888, the Vilas Home boasts over 130 years of history and is a beautiful example of Queen Anne architecture with its large open air porches that look out among the sweeping grass lawn. The Vilas Home will soon undergo a historically sensitive renovation and expansion into an enhanced assisted living and memory care community to ensure that the North Country's aging population has better choices when they're seeking care and communal living in this area.
